Why you need a business plan?
A business plan is a written document that describes your business. It covers objectives, strategies, sales, marketing and financial forecasts and is a requirement of the start up loan application.
A business plan helps you to:
- Clarify your business idea
- Spot potential problems
- Set out your goals
- Measure your progress
- Apply for one of the government start up loans
Your business plan should sum up:
The customer need you’re aiming to meet and how your new business will meet that need while making a profit.
It should clearly show the results of your market research, and that you’re able to explain how you can turn your idea into a viable new business before you invest lots of time and money.
To run your own profitable business that gives you the desired rewards, you will need to know how to successfully run a business.
You will need to consider:
- Your own personality traits – do you have the motivation and self discipline to be an entrepreneur?
- Sales and marketing – where are your markets, how will you reach them?
- Legal requirements
- Finances – initial investment, budgeting, record keeping, and more
- Taxation – PAYE, VAT, your personal taxes
- Company structures – which is best for you?
- Employment laws – minimum wage, contracts, hiring and firing staff
And so much more.
